Rolly Dessert, Board Chair

Rolly Dessert is a retired Army officer and a graduate of West Point, where he received a bachelor of science degree. He was awarded a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Denver. Rolly is an adjunct faculty member for the Benedictine College School of Business. He serves as a trustee for the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Interfaith Shelter of Hope, a ministry for the homeless. Rolly was the President of the Leavenworth Catholic Schools from 1999-2002.

 

 

 

Greg Penfield, Vice Chair

Colonel Greg Penfield is an active duty Army Strategist with extensive strategic planning experience, to include four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan on senior level staffs. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College. Greg holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and graduate degrees in Management and Leadership, and National Strategic Studies. He is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and former IMAC Booster Club executive committee member. Greg and his wife Kelly have two children: Joel is a 2015 IMAC graduate and now a junior at Oklahoma State University, and daughter Aubrie is a sophomore at Lansing High School.  The Penfieldsare active parishioners at St. Francis de Sales.

Evelyn (Evie) E. Porter attended Catholic Schools for 16 years and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Elementary Education and Religious Studies from Benedictine College in 1984. She holds a graduate degree from Baker University in School Leadership. Mrs. Porter is a licensed school administrator issued by the Kansas State Board of Education. She has 19 years of experience in Elementary Education within the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

 

 

 

Angela Chmidling, Secretary

Angela Chmidling is a graduate of Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Missouri, with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration and emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation.  A convert to Catholicism, she was received into the Catholic Church in 2001 and became a member of Immaculate Conception – St. Joseph parish where she and her husband, Craig (IMAC Alumni, Class of 1987) are currently active members.   Angela and Craig have two children and are strong advocates for Catholic education.

 

  

Beth Sanford, Treasurer

Beth Sanford graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She is married to Leif Sanford, and they have 3 children in Catholic school.  She and her family are members of the St. Francis de Sales parish. Beth is the Finance Director for the city of Lansing, where she has worked for 21 years.

 

 

 

 

Greg Beck

The oldest of 12 Catholic children, Greg Beck is a member/lector/cantor of St Joseph-Immaculate Conception Parish, and Knights of Columbus Financial Secretary for Ft Leavenworth’s St Ignatius Parish and past District Deputy. He's a 1980 West Point graduate and has a Master’s in Business and Adult Education and has taught as a college adjunct professor. He is a 22-year veteran instructor at Ft. Leavenworth’s Command and General Staff College and currently helps instruct-manage their online, 5000 officer/student, distance education instruction. Both his children attended the Xavier Catholic Schools and both graduated college with his daughter getting her Ph.D. in civil engineering and his son graduating from West Point as the top engineer in his class.  Mr. Beck is a retired Lieutenant Colonel Army Helicopter Pilot and celebrates 35 years being married to Judy Beck, a family practice nurse practitioner owner of Lansing Med and a cradle Catholic.

 

 

Mike Cyr

Mike Cyr is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.  He earned a MBA from Central Michigan University while attending the Army Command and General Staff College.  After a career in the Army, he and his wife, Ginger, retired to New Hampshire before moving back to Kansas.  A serial entrepreneur, Mike has owned several businesses and currently owns Property Solutions Metro KC, LLC, a real estate company.  Mike also teaches part-time at the Army Management Staff College, volunteers for the Elijah Supper, Shelter of Hope, and the planning, preparation and execution of the 7th Street Feast (Thanksgiving meal). Mike and Ginger live in Leavenworth and are communicants of Saint Joseph Church.

 

 

 

Leo Fink

Leo Fink grew up in Lansing where his family attended St Francis de Sales Parish.  He is a graduate of Lansing High School and attended Wichita State University.  Leo became a member of Immaculate Conception Parish when he and Toni Eagles married.  They moved to Wichita, KS and were active members in All Saints Parish and All Saints Catholic School.  Leo was on the Parish Council, Parish Youth Minister, Prayer Group Leader, a Eucharistic Minister, TEC Adult Leader, Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Diocesan Stewardship Committee when the Program started in Wichita. Since returning to Leavenworth in 2000, Leo has been on the IC/SJ Parish Council, Choir Member, RCIA Team, and has been instrumental in cooking for The Greenway Auction, St Patrick’s Day Dinner, and The Germanfest.  Leo worked for 28 years for General Electric Supply and currently is with Stanion Wholesale Electric as an Account Manager.  Leo and Toni have four children that have attended Catholic schools in both Wichita and at Xavier.  They have four Grandchildren.  Two attend Xavier, one attends Blessed Sacrament in Wichita and a one-year-old.  Leo is a strong proponent of the Catholic School System and hopes to have a positive impact on the continuation of Xavier Catholic School in Leavenworth.

 

 

Rev. David McEvoy, O., Carm.

Rev. David McEvoy was ordained a Carmelite Order in 1988. He attended St. Joseph grade school and is a graduate of Immaculata High School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Georgetown University, a Master’s degree in History from the University of Oregon, and a Master of Theology degree from the Washington Theological Union. Father David began his career as a Carmelite priest in pastoral ministry at St. John Parish in Leonia, New Jersey, where he served as associate pastor. In 1990, he became Eastern Commissary Provincial and vocation director. Leaving those appointments, in 1995, he became Novice Director of formation in Middletown, New York. After two years Father David became the pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish. Five years later, he took on the additional duties becoming an elected member of the provincial council. Today Father David serves as the pastor of Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph’s Parish.

Father Bill is a Leavenworth native and attended Immaculate Conception Grade School. While a student at Leavenworth High School he was active in the region’s Catholic youth ministry program. While a Student at Saint Mary College (now the University of Saint Mary) he directed the youth program. After graduating from Saint Mary in 1983, he began studies for the priesthood as a seminarian for the archdiocese, attending Kenrick Seminary in Saint Louis, Mo. Ordained in 1987, Father Bill has served in parishes in Topeka, Overland Park, Leawood, and for nearly seventeen years in northeast Kansas City, Kansas. He became pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lansing in 2010.

Dr. Kathy O'Hara, Ex Officio

Kathleen O’Hara is a graduate of Mercyhurst College of Erie, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with minors in Theater Arts and Secondary Education.  She also holds a Master of Science degree in Adult and Continuing Education from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. in Urban Leadership and Policy Studies in Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  She is currently the Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.  She provides support and service to all areas of operations and strategic planning for the Catholic schools in the Archdiocese, including approximately 15,000 students and 1,200 faculty and staff. Kathy has taught at all levels of education, including the graduate level, and received distinguished service and outstanding faculty awards.  In addition, she has given numerous presentations on various educational topics to a variety of audiences.  She has served on the Board of Trustees of Catholic Charities and currently serves on the boards of Benedictine and Donnelly Colleges. 

Kathy and her husband, Jim, have five children and fourteen grandchildren.  They are members of St. Joseph parish in Shawnee, Kansas, where Kathy serves as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.  Kathy was born in Philadelphia and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, where she attended Catholic schools through high school, as did Jim.  Jim was employed by Kansas City Life Insurance Company until he became disabled from Multiple Sclerosis in 1994.              

 

Lisa Runnels-Nevins

Since studying Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Kansas, Lisa Runnels-Nevins has actively developed her professional profile in a variety of ways including starting her own business to promote sustainable building and remodeling practices.  In May of 2014, she received her MA in Nonprofit Management and Fundraising through Avila University. Lisa Runnels-Nevins is working as a Development Officer for the University of Saint Mary.  Her areas of focus are major gifts, foundation relations, and grant writing.  She is a member of the Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division, Young Professionals, and Kansas City’s Women Mentoring Women program.  She and her husband, Derek, reside in Leavenworth, Kansas and are blessed with five children.  They are active members of the Sacred Heart-St. Casimir Parish and their children are students in the Leavenworth Regional Catholic School System.  Her hobbies include hiking, gardening, reading, and collecting Navajo jewelry.  In addition, the Nevins family are sponsors for Operation International.  Lisa believes strongly in Catholic education and is passionate about serving toward its success. 

 

 

Doug Scalard

Doug Scalard is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree.  He also earned a Master of Arts in History from Duke University and has taught history at West Point and at the US Army Command and General Staff College.  After a twenty-year career as an Army infantry officer, Doug retired and became a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial.  He holds the Certified Financial Planner® designation and the Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor (SM) designation.  Doug is the President of the St. Casimir Men's Society, a position at which he has served for about 16 of the past 20 years, a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, and a member of the St. Casimir Parish Council for over 15 years.  Doug and Sue have three daughters who were brought up in Catholic School systems in most of the places to which they were assigned, including the Leavenworth Catholic Schools.

John Williams

 John M. Williams is a graduate of Washburn University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Continuing Education certificate in Advanced Hospitality Management consisting of over 200 hours of instruction from Penn State University. A member of Saint Francis de Sales Parish, John has sung in the Church choir for 20 years and served on the Parish Finance Committee for 9 years.  John is retired from Fort Leavenworth Lodging Operations and is currently working in the Fort Leavenworth Leisure Activities selling tickets to local and national events. He is also employed part-time with Leavenworth Recreation - Sports - monitoring the gymnasium and coaching sports to include soccer, basketball, and baseball. John and his wife Theresa (Holt) Williams are both Leavenworth natives graduating from Leavenworth Catholic Schools and Immaculata High School. Theresa is an active member of St. Joseph, Immaculate Conception Parish as President of the St. Joe Altar Society among many activities. Both are members of the Knights of Columbus in Leavenworth and enjoy coaching and watching virtually any sports activity.

 

 

Rv. Phil Winkelbauer

Fr. Phil Winkelbauer was born and raised in Horton, Kansas. He was the oldest son of Leonard and Wilma, and brother to Colette and Leland. He studied in Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Denver, Colorado, before being ordained of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas on June 7, 1975. He has been stationed in various parishes throughout the Archdiocese and in July of 2003, was assigned as pastor to Sacred Heart - St. Casimir Parish. He celebrates Mass with the Xavier students on Wednesdays when school is in session.
